ADOX D-76

The Kodak “Developer-76” recipe is a photography legend next to Rodinal, gaining almost universal recognition as the go-to developer for photojournalistic work during the WWII and post war era.

D-76 is a universal, easy-to-use developer with a multitude of applications with the most different films and contrast situations, always delivering fine grain and great speed-utilisation.

ADOX took the classical formula and, while keeping all the important original properties and developing times, brought it up to the modern standards. The new ADOX D-76 has significantly lower dissolving temperatures, as well as the Captura® technology for dust-free mixing. Additionally, all the borates were removed and replaced with a non-toxic biodegradable buffer. The ADOX D-76 powder developer is made in Germany, with both research and post-production quality control carried out on site. The product is available in 1l and 5l packs.

The ADOX D-76 developer can be used exactly like the Kodak D-76, with the already-published D-76 times, dilutions and factors.

D-76 has historically always been a one part developer. This makes it relatively cheap to produce and easy to mix. Since 2014 many photo chemicals are banned in the EU and we had to adapt the recipe acordingly. The Developer works still the same way but the long keeping properties have been affected. ADOX took action against this and is packaging D-76 under a vakuum. Still it remains a little challenge and therefore we ask you to check your developer before the use. It is very simple: The powder has to be completely white (see image on the left) without any brown crystals inside. We guarantee D-76 for 2 years beginning with the production date.

Should your D-76 look like the lower image on the right it has gone bad and cannot be used any longer.

Should this have happened within the guaranteed dates, please contact us for a replacement.

ADOX D-76 dissolves in Water starting as low as 29°C. This is  a huge advantage against the old recipe especially in warmer countries so it cools down to the working temperature of 20°C faster.

Fill a mixing jug with 700ml (for the 5 Liter Version 4.500ml) of Water of 29°C or more (recomended is 35°) and dissolve the entire bag whilst gently stirring. If a few white crystals remain undissolved use a coffe filter or Zewa. Fill with cold water to 1.000ml (or 5.000ml for the 5 Liter pack). Let it cool to 20°C before you use your D-76.
